Welcome to the Caltech COVID-19 Study Homepage!
California Institute of Technology (Caltech), in collaboration with the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD), is studying the amount of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) in the saliva and nasal swabs of people who have recently tested positive for COVID-19, or who share a home with someone who has recently tested positive for COVID-19. The results of this study are important to understanding which COVID-19 tests can detect an infection earliest, even in people with few or no symptoms.

With the help of participants like you, we will better understand how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. The study will last approximately 2 weeks and will require you to self-collect a sample of your saliva and gentle nasal and throat swabs twice a day. Everything is done in the comfort of your home. There will be no cost to you. Participants will be compensated with a gift card (up to $315 each) at the end of the study. This study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Caltech, protocol #20-1026.
