Caltech COVID-19 Study
California Institute of Technology (Caltech), in collaboration with the Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD), ran a community-based study from September 2020 to March 2022 to study the amount of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) in the saliva and nasal swabs of people with COVID-19. One of the goals of this study was to understand which types of COVID-19 tests can detect an infection earliest, even in people with few or no symptoms. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Caltech, protocol #20-1026. Enrollment is complete, but you can learn about our findings on our Publications page.
